Requesting a Hamper

We all need assistance from time to time. We are here to help!

We provide food support to clients within Airdrie, Crossfield, Balzac, Beiseker, Madden and surrounding areas.

What is a hamper?

A hamper provides nutritional food items estimated to last 7 to 10 days for your entire family. It includes food choices from each area of Canada’s Food Guide.

(NOTE: We have a number of other programs including a drop-in bread and extras program, new moms and babies programs, emergency hampers and feeding students at area schools.)

How to request a hamper

What to expect when you call

When you phone in for a hamper, please allow 5 to 10 minutes to complete an application. We will ask you questions such as how many are in your family, why you currently need help, as well as financial information (income and expenses). We use this information to determine eligibility as well as to best meet the needs of our clients.

After reviewing your information, we will inform you immediately whether or not you qualify for a hamper. At that time you will be assigned an appointment time to come to the Food Bank to pick up your hamper.

What to expect when you come in

It is important that you arrive on time as we schedule hamper pickups every 15 minutes - the amount of time it typically takes to go through paper work and bag your groceries. If you are unable to make your assigned hamper time, it is very important that you call our office at 403-948-0063 to reschedule.

Please bring ID for each person listed on your application.


When you arrive, please inform the front desk staff that you are there to pick up a hamper. We will go over the application with you and provide additional information. Because we operate a referral system, and network with other agencies, we will also provide you with information about other resources available to you within the community. We do this to give you the support you need in times of crisis.


Once the paper work is complete, you will be assigned a counter space and a grocery cart of food will be brought to you. Each hamper is put together by teams of volunteers and is custom made to fit your food requirements. All hampers include 7 to 10 days worth of nutritious food choices including foods from all food groups. Hampers include perishable and non-perishable food items.

You will be asked to pack your items into grocery bags. While there, you can also help yourself to bread and extras available on the shelves in the front lobby area. If there is anything in the hamper you would not use, we ask you to leave it behind so we can put it back on our shelves.

How often can I apply?

When you are in need, you can receive a hamper every 30 days, to a maximum of 6 hampers in a 12 month period. Please know that each time you phone in for a hamper you will go through the same application/qualification process.

What if I don't qualify?

If you don't qualify for a regular hamper, you are more than welcome to come in for bread and extras on an ongoing basis, as often as needed. No application is required for this although we will ask for your name and how many in your family for our records.
